Описание:Автор ставил себе задачей в этой небольшой книге осветить биохимическую сторону эволюции и классификации животных, показав, что имеются биохимические систематические признаки. Возможность присовокупить к зоологической классификации, разработанной морфологами, классификацию биохимического порядка не может считаться очевидной a priori. Если такая возможность будет доказана, это укрепит позиции тех, кто в изменчивости форм животных видит выражение их биохимических различий. В месте с тем это будет содействовать изучению эволюции животных в биохимическом плане, а также освобождению эволюционной теории от неясных и более или менее теологических концепций, загромождающих её. Речь идёт о разработке принципов установления иерархии биохимических признаков, которые лежат в основе различий многоклеточных организмов. В книге этому предпосылается обсуждение единства основного биохимического плана строения животных, которое служит новым аргументом в пользу органического единства вообще.
